California State Superintendent Tom Torlakson recently named Laguna Beach Unified School District as one of three “leading digital districts” in California. This district is actively promoting the use of technology in the classroom, and even piloted a Bring Your Own Device program at one of its’ high schools. This program was so successful they expanded it districtwide in 2014.

In addition to the BYOD program, the district has carefully selected web-based software at all grade levels, including Waterford Early Learning in its lower grades, to “ensure virtual learning environments are engaging in and out of the classrooms.”

“Our focus has shifted to researched based programs at all levels,” Irene White, LBSD’s director of special ed and student services, said. “Since making this shift eight years ago, our need for intervention programs at the higher grades has diminished to almost nothing. Waterford has made a significant role in making a difference in the early years.”
