"The Waterford program actually steps in and helps me keep Jackson on track of where he needs to be," Chantay Stigall, an Ohio UPSTART parent, said. "I feel like without this program, I don't feel like he would know what he does know today."
In Ohio, Waterford UPSTART recently partnered with the Corporation for Ohio Appalachian Development (COAD) to bring early education opportunities to more children in rural and low-income areas of the state.
“Poverty in Appalachian Ohio is stark,” Maureen Boggs, Early Care and Education Division Director at COAD, said. “Kids who are living in high levels of poverty probably don’t have technology in their home, may not have ever seen it. So, the chance to learn what a keyboard is, a mouse, to turn on the computer and know what it means to click, they’re going to need that when they get to kindergarten.”
