It’s time to “Seize the Summer” with ReadAloud.org! This wonderful movement is based on the knowledge that parents are their children’s first and most important teacher, and that reading together for just 15 minutes a day has tremendous benefits for children’s learning. In fact, it is so beneficial for parents to read aloud with their children that pediatricians recommend doing it from birth. Here are some other interesting facts:

Every time we read aloud to a child, we send a ‘pleasure’ message to the child’s brain. –Jim Trelease, author of the best-seller, “The Read-Aloud Handbook”
Teachers spend a month re-teaching old material that has been forgotten over the summer, at the expense of new learning (reading aloud can help with this!) Source
Students who read the most, read the best, achieve the most, and stay in school the longest. –Jim Trelease, author of the best-seller, “The Read-Aloud Handbook”
Studies show that under-resourced students are especially at risk, losing between one to two months of reading achievement during the summer. Source
