Join us as we get ready to celebrate The Week of the Young Child (WOYC), an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) that takes place this year April 10-16!
The purpose of this week is to recognize young children and the programs and opportunities that lay the foundation for their success in school and throughout life. We know the importance of laying a strong learning foundation in the early years, and just like WOYC, we’re passionate about constantly improving how we can meet the needs of all young children and their families. Here are some ways you can celebrate:
Participate in the WOYC Daily Activities
NAEYC has dedicated an activity for each day of the week that participants can accomplish and share with others. For instance, Music Monday is dedicated to practicing beats and music, Taco Tuesday incorporates cooking while learning, and so on. NAEYC has provided free resources for each of these activities for families and teachers. Use them for your school or classroom, or refer parents to them so they can celebrate, too!
Gather Together and Celebrate in the Community
In the past, communities have gathered together all over the country to commemorate the WOYC. One community held a parade and children’s fair honoring young children and their care providers, while another hosted a workshop where parents were invited to create a book with their child. Be sure to check out the event map to see if any events are being held in your area.
