We love a good party — all the better if it celebrates reading! That’s why we were proud to donate 430 books to students at Bunche Elementary School in Carson, Calif. this week as part of their “Book It National Young Readers Week Principal’s Challenge.”
As part of the principal’s challenge, Principal La Ronda Ortega read in a lawn chair in front of the Bunche Elementary library from the first class bell to the last class bell Wednesday.
To support Mrs. Ortega’s challenge, we selected titles from our library collection to donate to the students at Bunche Elementary. Each student received his or her own book.
“Our event was a success and the support Waterford Institute provided was amazing,” Mrs. Ortega said. “[The books] were a nice gift to reinforce the joy of reading.”
Ana Sosa, from Waterford Institute, handed out the books and students enjoyed a Book-nic outside of the school library. The entire student body was able to enjoy a leisurely read with blankets, books and snacks in support of the Book It National Young Readers Week Principal’s Challenge.
Bunche Elementary uses our Waterford Early Learning curriculum to increase literacy among their K-1 students.
