What if every child entered their first classroom on day one ready to learn?

The nonprofit Waterford.org uses your generous donations to provide children with scholarships for Waterford UPSTART, the award-winning kindergarten readiness project that’s provided at no cost to families.

Whether providing a one-time donation or monthly donation, you can help make this life-changing impact on children’s lives.

Why

UPSTART-1

2.2 million children, nearly half of our nation’s 4-year-olds, don’t have access to early education.

The average Waterford UPSTART graduate enters kindergarten reading at nearly a first-grade level.

Academic gains from Waterford UPSTART continue through the 4th grade, especially among at-risk populations.

How much does it cost to help the children most in need?

At Waterford.org, we look to serve children for whom we can have the greatest impact. These most at-risk families receive the following through Waterford UPSTART:
Parent Support and Coaching – Many at-risk communities struggle to provide families with early education resources. Waterford UPSTART empowers parents with the tools they need to guide their child to academic success.
Technology They Cannot Afford – Waterford UPSTART provides new laptops for children to use our software, but that also allows family members to learn, communicate, and grow, eliminating the technology gap in many low-income homes.
Internet Access They Cannot Afford – A lack of reliable high-speed Internet can be a barrier to education options. Waterford UPSTART resolves this access issue by providing Internet directly in the homes of participants.
Award-Winning Early Learning Software – Waterford UPSTART provides early education access directly in the homes, which proves successful in as little as 15 minutes a day, 5 days a week.
While we provide full scholarships with the most pride, they are also the most expensive. The average cost per child for Waterford UPSTART is $1,800.* No matter your contribution, you are helping provide Waterford UPSTART to one at-risk family.

Meet Our Waterford UPSTART Families

Philadelphia’s Urban Families
Waterford UPSTART in partnership with Philadelphia’s Read By 4th helped children and families get a jump start on education. Kingston Johnson is one of many children who benefited from philanthropic support to implement the project at no cost to families.
Utah’s Refugee Community
Waterford UPSTART is proven effective, particularly in English Language Learners. Utah has a strong refugee community, and Waterford partners with them to help their children prepare for kindergarten, but also supports parents who are learning English and learning technology for the first time.
Indiana’s Rural and Low-Income Families
Toni Butler from Rushville, Indiana wants nothing more for her kids than for them to be successful. Through the Waterford UPSTART program, families like the Butlers now have access to a no-cost, at-home kindergarten prep program that sets children on the path to succeed academically.
