The System Administrator’s role is to manage and tune in-house computer software systems and network connections to ensure high levels of availability and security of the supported business applications. This individual also participates in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure system provisioning and maintenance that is consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.
 
This individual will assist project teams with technical issues throughout all phases of Project Management. These activities include the definition of needs, benefits, and technical strategy; research & development within the project life-cycle; technical analysis and design; and support of operations staff in executing, testing and rolling-out the solutions. Participation on projects is focused on smoothing the transition of projects from development to production by performing operations activities within the project life-cycle.

This individual is accountable for the following systems: Linux, Windows and Mac OS systems that support Waterford infrastructure; Waterford Asset Management; Backup and restore infrastructure; company web sites; Desktop Support and Maintenance, etc. Responsibilities on these systems include SA engineering and provisioning, operations and support, maintenance and research and development to ensure continual innovation.
 
Good organizational and logical thinking skills are required, for setting up, diagnosing and solving problems with existing systems. System administrators must be able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines when required. Because they may have to work with users who have little or no technical knowledge, they must be able to communicate complex and unfamiliar ideas easily.


Responsibilities

Strategy & Planning

• Participate in and support capacity planning and the development of long-term strategic goals for systems and software in conjunction with end-users and department managers

Acquisition & Deployment

• Coordinate with network engineering, business application, and database administration functions to implement desktop and server systems that utilize industry best practices to meet corporate objectives
• Deploy workstations, servers, printers, scanners, firewalls, encryption systems, and all host security systems

Operational Management

• Manage all operating systems and end-user software
• Manage communications (e-mail, IM, etc.) and connection solutions, including workstation connectivity, local area networks, company Web site, intranet, and Internet applications
• Ensure the integrity and security of enterprise data on host computers, multiple databases, and during data transfer in accordance to business needs and industry best-practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance
• Manage end user accounts, permissions, access rights, and storage allocations in accordance with best-practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance
• Anticipate, mitigate, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software problems on servers, and workstations
• Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information
• Analyze system, server, application, and network performance
• Recommend, schedule, and perform software and hardware improvements, upgrades, patches, reconfigurations
• Conduct research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of systems software procurement and development efforts
• Create required reports in response to business user needs
• Administer, manage and deployment of company web site backend services
• Manage and/or provide guidance to junior members of the team
• Suggest and provide IT solutions to business and management problems

Requirements

• College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science
• 3+ year of related experience
• Certifications in A+, Network+ and similar industry certifications desirable
• Working technical knowledge of network, PC, and platform operating systems, including Windows XP Pro, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 2003/2008 Server, Exchange 2003

The Telecommunications Administrator’s responsibility is to plan, develop, and implement the Company’s telecommunications infrastructure. The person will also analyze and resolve telecommunications circuit issues in a timely and accurate fashion, and support user needs where required.

Requirements

Formal Education & Certification

The Network Engineer’s role is to ensure the stability and integrity of in-house voice, data, video, and wireless network services. This is achieved by planning, designing, and developing local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs) across the organization. In addition, the Network Engineer will participate with the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links. This individual will also analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end user training where required.

The Math and Science Designer designs research- and standards-based objectives for early math and science curriculum for the computer. They define the math and science objectives for the content of books, videos, songs, and teacher guides to supplement programs and they define the ideal developmental math and science sequence for student progression through a program based on performance. They work with the Evaluation and Fundraising departments to acquire grants for development of current and future products. 

Responsibilities

• Develop a thorough understanding of existing Waterford courseware and teacher materials
• Assess improvement needs for Waterford products
• Assist in the development of math and science content for computer adaptive assessments with the Evaluation Department
• Interact closely with an interaction designer to ensure effective teaching methods
• Develop Education Design Requirements according to standards outlined in the Content Design Style Guide
• Research curriculum standards, guidelines, and literature in collaboration with other designers
• Develop a working knowledge of Waterford instructional sequencing (for current and planned products)
• Develop content for offline products in collaboration with other designers

Requirements

As Product Manager, you will guide a team that is charged with a product line contribution as a business unit. This extends from increasing the profitability of existing products to developing new products for the company. You will build products from existing ideas, and help to develop new ideas based on your industry experience and your contact with customers and prospects. You must possess a unique blend of business and technical savvy; a big-picture vision, and the drive to make that vision a reality. You must be able to communicate with all areas of the company. You will work with an engineering counterpart to define product release requirements. You will work with marketing communications to define the go-to-market strategy, helping them understand the product positioning, key benefits, and target customer. The Database Administrator’s role is to design, install, monitor, maintain, and performance tune production databases while ensuring high levels of data availability. This individual is also responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software.

Responsibilities

Strategy & Planning

• Assess and develop long-term strategic goals for production databases in conjunction with data owners and department managers
• Work with application development staff to develop database architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures
• Design and implement redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of data assets

Acquisition & Deployment

Conduct research and make recommendations on database products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.

Operational Management

• Create models for new database development and/or changes to existing ones
• Install and configure relevant network components to ensure database access as well as database consistency and integrity
• Respond to and resolve database access and performance issues
• Monitor database system details within the database, including stored procedures and execution time, and implement efficiency improvements
