Math and Science Content Designer

The Math and Science Designer designs research- and standards-based objectives for early math and science curriculum for the computer. They define the math and science objectives for the content of books, videos, songs, and teacher guides to supplement programs and they define the ideal developmental math and science sequence for student progression through a program based on performance. They work with the Evaluation and Fundraising departments to acquire grants for development of current and future products.
Responsibilities
- Develop a thorough understanding of existing Waterford courseware and teacher materials
- Assess improvement needs for Waterford products
- Assist in the development of math and science content for computer adaptive assessments with the Evaluation Department
- Interact closely with an interaction designer to ensure effective teaching methods
- Develop Education Design Requirements according to standards outlined in the Content Design Style Guide
- Research curriculum standards, guidelines, and literature in collaboration with other designers
- Develop a working knowledge of Waterford instructional sequencing (for current and planned products)
- Develop content for offline products in collaboration with other designers
- Prioritize requested changes to existing products with some direction from a more senior designer
- Query bug database regularly and deal with bugs in a timely manner
- Contribute to grant applications
- Performs duties as assigned or as the situation dictates
Requirements
- Knowledge of the current scientific math and science research for young children
- Understand the current national and state standards for math (NCTM) and science (NSTA)
- Communicate and work effectively with a production team
- Understand computer technology and software as an effective tool for instruction
- Passion for math and science literacy
- Minimum two years teaching experience, preferably with elementary school-age children
- Ph.D. in mathematics or related field
- Thorough knowledge of math through calculus
- Thorough knowledge of a science domain in either biology, physics, or chemistry
