Rusty and Rosy Learn with Me™ is a program created by the Waterford Institute™ that helps children preschool through grade two build a solid foundation in math, science, and reading. Rusty and Rosy Learn with Me is delivered via a portable USB drive, allowing your child to learn in the convenience of your own home.
Who is Rusty and Rosy Learn with Me for?
Rusty and Rosy Learn with Me is ideal for children in preschool through second grade. Up to five children can use the program at one time, making it suitable for children seeking additional educational enrichment at home, children who are home schooled, small preschools, and small childcare centers.
What can Rusty and Rosy Learn with Me do for my child?
In the reading portion of Rusty and Rosy Learn with Me, your child will begin with the alphabet and move on to phonics, vocabulary, grammar, and comprehension. These skills will give your child the education necessary to become a fluent reader.
In the math and science portion of Rusty and Rosy Learn with Me, your child will learn the skills necessary to recognize numbers, multiply, divide, use fractions, problem solve, tell time, graph, measure, experiment, and explore.

How do I get Rusty and Rosy Learn with Me for my child through the UPSTART program?
UPSTART is a government-funded program that provides Rusty and Rosy Learn with Me to thousands of children across Utah. To learn more about how your child can participate in this program, visit the UPSTART Website.
How often should my child use Rusty and Rosy Learn with Me?
Rusty and Rosy Learn with Me is designed to be used for 15 to 30 minutes a day, five days a week at a minimum.
What can I do if my child is getting bored with the program?
There is a placement test built into Rusty and Rosy Learn with Me that your child can take in order to place them further in the program. To access this test, follow the directions below.
- Log in to the Rusty and Rosy Manager.
- Select your child’s name.
- Click Program Settings.
- In the Reading section, select Test (you should have options for Test, 1, 2, or 3).
- Click Save.
The test will begin the next time your child starts Rusty and Rosy Learn with Me.
Why does my child repeat some activities?
The program determines what lesson is best for your child based on previous performance. Occasionally, a lesson repeats to ensure your child is retaining the information presented in that lesson.
How can I check my child’s progress in the program?
To check your child’s progress in the program, follow the directions below.
- Log in to the Rusty and Rosy Manager.
- Select your child’s name.
This page shows how far your child has progressed through their current level in each subject, which lessons they are currently on, how much time they have spent on the subject, and how much they have developed each skill within a subject. - Click the different Subject tabs to change which subject you are viewing.
How do I contact User Support?
User Support is available to answer your questions via live chat and e-mail.
To contact User Support by live chat or e-mail, click the Support tab on the Waterford Institute Website and select Live Chat from the drop-down menu. In the page that opens, select the Live Chat tab to chat or the Contact tab to e-mail.
To report a problem, click the Support tab on the Waterford Institute Website and select Report a Problem from the drop-down menu.
What do I do if my Rusty and Rosy Learn with Me drive is clicking?
If your drive is clicking, the drive is potentially failing. Please contact User Support immediately at 1-877-299-7997 and we will set up a return for the malfunctioning drive.
What do I do if I receive a 740 Error when I try to install Rusty and Rosy Learn with Me on my computer?
To resolve this issue, follow the directions below.
- In the My Computer window, right-click the Rusty and Rosy Drive and select Open.
- Click Setup_rrlwm.
This will manually install the program. If this does not work, please contact User Support.
What do I do if the program freezes?
There are many reasons why this might happen. There is a utility built into both Windows and Mac that allows you to repair errors on your hard drive.
For Windows:
- Open My Computer.
- Right-click the Rusty and Rosy drive and select Properties.
- Click the Tools tab.
- In the Error-Checking section, click Check Now...
- Check both boxes.
- Click Start.
- If prompted to restart your computer, click Yes.
- Allow the disk check to complete.
This may take an hour or more. - Allow the computer to boot into Windows.
- Launch Rusty and Rosy.
If the problem persists, please contact User Support.
For Mac:
- Open Finder.
- Open Applications.
- Open Utilities.
- Run Disk Utility.
- Select the Rusty and Rosy drive.
- Click Repair Disk.
- Allow the disk repair to complete.
This may take an hour or more. - Launch Rusty and Rosy.
