Phonological Awareness teaches students that spoken words are made up of smaller speech units—phonemes. Students learn to perceive and manipulate individual phonemes in words. As they progress through the courseware, students practice:

  • Listening
  • Rhyming
  • Segmenting words into syllables
  • Blending onsets with rimes to create words
  • Segmenting initial and final phonemes
  • Blending individual phonemes
  • Segmenting individual phonemes
  • Manipulating phonemes to make new words
  • Exploring speech sounds
