Waterford Early Math and Science™ is a comprehensive, research-based curriculum that gives students a solid foundation in basic math and science skills by:

  • Teaching basic math facts and operations
  • Teaching methods of exploration
  • Fostering curiosity in students of all abilities

The program encourages students to actively explore their world through music, art, literature, videos, and game-like activities.

Three yearlong courses—Level One (for kindergarten), Level Two (for first grade), and Level Three (for second grade)—provide an innovative continuum of instruction tailored to each student's math and science level. Using a unique research-based sequencer, the courseware ranks each student's progress by mastery of objectives, creates an individualized sequence, and provides automated review of past objectives to facilitate retention of concepts learned over time.

The math curriculum maintains a balance between stressing basic skills and a conceptual approach. Research shows that students who have a solid foundation in basic skills and an ability to solve problems creatively are more likely to develop a lifelong appreciation of mathematics.

The science curriculum engages students in inquiries that are interesting and important. The curriculum promotes retention of scientific information, by teaching students to observe, manipulate, and ask questions, while learning science concepts.

Standards for Waterford Early Math and Science are established through careful consideration of recommendations made by the following national organizations, in conjunction with other research sources.

  • National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM)
  • National Science Education Standards (NSES)
  • Benchmarks of Science Literacy
  • Key state standards
